Should I go Vegan or Vegetarian this 2024?

Vegetarians do not eat any animals. They do not eat pigs, chicken, cows, fish and other animals. Vegans on the other are the stricter version of vegetarians. Aside from not eating animals, they also do not consume dairy milk, dairy cheese, eggs, and other product derived from an animal. I am actually leaning towards being completely vegan than being vegetarian. This might be a drastic move, but my health needs drastic measures. I have a heart condition and Type 2 diabetes among few of my negative health conditions. And recent studies are showing that cardiovascular disease and the onset of Type 2 diabetes are lower among people who are considered to be vegans. Being a vegan may support weight loss, heart health, may lower blood pressure & cholesterol, may support blood sugar balance, and reduce the risk of diabetes, cancer, and may be beneficial for gut health. On the negative side, a plant based diet are deficient in vitamin B12, vitamin D, iron, zinc, and calcium. The bone turnover markers are lower for vegans compared to meat eaters. These however can be remedied by proper monitoring and supplement intake.

Becoming a vegan this 2024 may not happen yet but will come soon. Honestly, I’m a meat lover. I love eating eggs and always eat them during breakfast. Meat is always part of my diet. I love cooking omelettes. I love to cook staple Filipino vegetable dishes that are soupy and mixed with meat. It won’t be an easy resolution and challenge, to be honest. I may have to challenge myself several times until it happens. If the path of veganism leads to good health and longer life, I want to have that. I want to have a longer life so I can spend more years of my life with my grandchildren. That will make me happy during my last years here on earth.

But first, I have to learn how to cook vegan. I have to learn how to eat vegan. Even salads have a little mix of meat. It has to be purely plant based.
